What is fear? Gijsjes Fairy describes her take on fears in her poem.

I really enjoyed this.

Here are my favorite lines:

Quote:
Fear is kneeling down,
take another step in the water and drown.

Quote:
Fear is when your reflection recognises you,
watch the mirror and do what everyone wants too.

You did a fantastic job of expressing the fact that trying to define fear is like trying to hold water in the palm of your hand. It shifts, it changes, it is different for everyone. Your descriptions were perfect in relaying this.

Really well done. Smiley

Quote:
Fear cannot be understood, that’s just one reason why it isn’t bad or good

Very powerful concept here. If we cannot understand it how can we judge whether it is bad or good. And sometimes fear saves us from the bad ...

You have taken a really complex emotion and shown in a really effective way the power it had over us and confusion it can create. But fear is an abstract quality too. So well describe while eluding to its nature.

Nice prose!

What I love about this poem is how each person can find a different part of it that they can relate to themselves. The words can reach out to each of us in their own unique way, for our own selves to interpret.

Quote:
Fear is falling in love every time again,
that’s how true love always began.

Those lines touch at a part of my mind that has almost a fear of falling in love. It can be such a big risk, like bungy jumping off a bridge. But in the end it's worth the risk (unless the rope snaps and... yeah shut up Callie) and the fear just makes it that much more of a rush.

Quote:
Fear cannot be understood,
that’s just one reason why it isn’t bad or good.

When you think about it, fear is in so many different aspects of our lifes and affecting the decisions we make (fear that we won't succeed, that something bad will happen, that we won't be accepted, fear of being alone...).

Perhaps we don't notice it's there, but in many ways, it is the most powerful emotion. And it's neither a good or bad thing. Fear of hurt can stop us from loving, fear of failure can stop us from trying, but fear of repercussions can also be what stops us from making the kind of decisions that could land us in jail.

Very thought provoking poem there GF. Smiley
