Wow. That is quite scary, and quite an interesting question. My guess is Hell. Losing any part of yourself is hell, but the part that feeds the blood - wicked. Let's hope it stays a rare condition.

This is a gutwrenching (and please excuse the pun) look at how things that seem like a solution may in fact lead to further hell. This is a pretty horrifying thing to happen and I love how you have managed to convey the facts so clearly and the conquences so succinctly.
Sounds extremely nasty!!
